| (The) very fact that you continue to exhibit such a morbid interest in my life and waste precious time reading about it when you could be doing something of more importance, such as...well, anything, really...does indeed call your intelligence into question. |

| Review by Critus |
I recently decided that I haven’t read enough of the
"classic" science fiction and fantasy novels, and I set out on a mission to do
so. I actually shot myself in the foot a bit on that one, because I mentioned it
to Brooks and he gave me a list of about 40 "must-reads." I’m actually going to
try and get through it, even though he insists it was a joke. I’ll show him.
Anyway, the first book I picked up was this one, and I can understand now why it
is considered one of the classics. I tore through this book relatively quickly,
completely engrossed in the story and the beautiful visualizations that Herbert
expressed. He was especially successful in getting across the lack of water on
Arakis, and I actually found myself getting thirsty at certain points in the
book. The only reference I had to this novel previous was the David Lynch movie,
and after reading the book I can understand all the uproar about how much was
lost from the book. I still like the movie, but the book was much
better.
Isn’t that always the case though?
